Muller Wiseman confirms Cornwall milk depot closure
Muller Wiseman Dairies has confirmed the closure of its Pensilva milk depot in Cornwall.
Fifty-eight workers at the site will lose their jobs because of the decision.
Dairy farmers will not be affected, as Muller’s depot in Bridgwater, Somerset, will take over distribution this summer.
The company entered a 30-day statutory consultation on the site’s future in mid-May, saying the depot was supplying less milk as its customers increasingly wanted deliveries to regional distribution centres rather than individual stores.
Muller Wiseman managing director Carl Ravenhall said the business would support each individual affected by the closure.
“The whole team, together with union representatives, worked extremely hard to find ways of addressing the challenges facing this depot, but unfortunately we have been unable to establish an economic basis for continuing to distribute milk from Pensilva.”

Earlier this month, UK Dairy Sales announced the shutdown of Rock Farm Dairy in Wheatley Hill, Durham.
The company blamed “difficult trading conditions” for the closure, which will lead to the loss of 81 jobs and force 24 dairy farmers to find new milk contracts.
UK Dairy Sales has said it will still buy their milk until their contracts end in three to six months’ time.
