Top EBV Limousin heifer sells for 9,000gns

Limousin breed fanciers had some of the best herds forward at last weekend’s society sale where prices reached 9,000gns for the Millbrow herd of George and Pat Long, Ambleside.

Getting the wallets waving was the three year old calved heifer Millbrow Elaine who has EBVs for muscle depth in the top 1%. By Ionesco and out of Millbrow Crystal she sold with her heifer calf at foot to an undisclosed buyer.

GLENROCK HERD

The Glenrock Herd’s first sale of young cows for several years saw prices rise to the day’s next highest price of 8,000gns for the Goldies Comet daughter Glenrock Icemaiden. This was a rare chance for people to purchase a heifer from Glenrock Spangle who is undoubtedly the herds best breeding cow and whose progeny have sold up to 20,000gns for Glenrock Bianca. Bagging this heifer from the Illingworth family was Boden and Davies, Mellor, Stockport. Glenrock Icemaiden - 8000gns

The Boden consignment also purchased Glenrick Eternity and her heifer calf Glenrock Hermonie for 5,900gns. Eternity who is by Bremore Artist and out of Glenrock Una sold in calf to the 16,000gns Glenrock Fortune.

Another cow and calf consignment in the money was Glenrock Cancan and her November 2012 born heifer calf Glenrock Hyancinth. Cancan is by Rocky and sold for a combined sum of 5,000gns to James Hunter, Ayrshire.

HARTLAW HERD
The dispersal of the Hartlaw herd on behalf of John Mckeen attracted a high of 3,500gns for Hartlaw Honey.
Out of one of the best cow family’s, Honey goes back to Ruffland Pancake and has great attributes combining muscle and milk. This Rocky daughter is out of Hartlaw Cinnamon and sold to SJ and R Helliwell, Bedforshire.

At 1,000gns less was another outstanding heifer Hartlaw Happyvalentine. By Carmorn Dauphin and out of Hartlaw Elysee she sold to JC and S Little, Carlisle.

The cow and bull calf outfit were next in the money when Hartlaw Estelle, a cow with great breed muscle and style by Carnkirk Hilton sold for 1,550gns to KD Harryman, Kewswick, Cumbria. Her May 2012 born bull calf Hartlaw Hardy sired by Ampertaine Commander sold for 1,700gns to W and E Cook, Ayrshire.

NORMANDE
A reduction from the Normande herd saw prices rise to 3,200gns for April 2012 born bull Lough Conn Handyman bred by Richard Hegerty, Co Mayo. This Fieldson Alfy son soldto D and M Millar, Penrith, Cumbria.

Next at 3,100gns was Roundhill Fleny bred by b T Corridan, Co Limerick. This cow out of Vison sold to James Hunter, Ayrshire.

ASHMARA HERD

Entries from the Ashmara herd of G N Martin, Dromore, Northern Ireland topped 6,000gns for the April born bull calf Ashmara Iceman by Rocky and out of Hollybank Ruth. He sold to a breeder from Welshpool.

HARVEYS HERD
A major reduction from the Harveys herd of G Harvey, Glasgow topped 6,000gs for the prize winning heifer Harveys Getique. This Virginia Andy daughter out of Harveys Tique sold to Messrs Boyling, Cheshire.

RENTONS HERD
The Renton herd of Mr and Mrs Renton, Scottish Borders realised a high of 4,000gns for the cow Lumbylaw Adelaide. Bred by R G Oates of the Lumbylaw herd this Lumbylaw Panache daughter who is renowned for being easy calving sold to J D Grenop, Wigton, Cumbria.
