Harvest Highlights video: Later sown crops struggle

Last seasons legacy is beginning to show in this year’s yields, with the later sown oilseed rape crops looking hugely variable.

Reports of 2.5t/ha averages have been filtering in with many crops patchy and producing poor quality rapeseed.

The wheat harvest is about 15% complete according to the latest ADAS report with mostgrowers looking to get going properly next week.

Early yield indications were close to the five-year average at 7.6-7.8t/ha – although that hid a range from 4.5-13t/ha.

The winter barley is almost complete and growers are now turning theirattention to the spring crop which is looking promising.
