Man trampled to death by cows

A dog walker has been trampled to death by cows and another injured while out walking in a field in Wiltshire.

The 66-year-old man was crushed to death by a herd of cows while out walking his dog at Turleigh, near Winsley.

Two air ambulances and a land ambulance were sent to the scene shortly after midday on Monday (13 May) following reports that a man had been trampled by cows.

His injured brother, aged in his early 70s, was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol where he remains critically ill today (Tuesday).

The ambulance service said his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, a tractor driver died following a road accident near Halwill Junction, north Devon.

The 54-year-old was killed after his tractor left the road and veered into a ditch, trapping him under the vehicle.

Police said residents freed the man, who was pinned under the tractor, and tried to resuscitate him.

The man, from Okehampton, was airlifted to Exeter Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
