Bakewell dance their way to AGM victory
An eight-strong team from Bakewell Young Farmers’ Club in Derbyshire saw off competition from 10 other clubs to win the national ballroom dancing final at last weekend’s annual general meeting in Blackpool, Lancashire.
The team’s polished ballroom performance, at the historic Empress Ballroom in the Winter Gardens, incorporated the tango, cha cha cha and quick step, and impressed judges enough to win them the top gong.
Bakewell’s closest competition came from Trefeglwys Young Farmers’ Club dancers from Montgomery, who claimed second place. In third place was Whitleigh Young Farmers’ Club, Devon.
Bakewell have an impressive pedigree at dance competitions – they took home the top trophy for ballroom in 2009 and for jazz dancing in 2011.
