Thieves steal 62t of fertiliser from farm
Police are appealing for information after a massive amount of ammonium nitrate fertiliser was stolen from a farm in Lincolnshire.
The raiders made off with 62 bulk bags of ammonium nitrate from a farm in Postland sometime between 6 and 27 September.
The fertiliser was contained in pale blue bags (pictured) bearing the GrowHow logo above which the words ‘NITRAM 34.5%N’ are written. The bags also carry a distinctive large lower case ‘g’ in a blue disk to signify GrowHow, contained inside a blue box.
Due to the size and weight of the 1,000kg bags, police believe the offenders would have needed mechanical lifting equipment and some form of large transport to remove the fertiliser.
Ammonium nitrate is highly explosive when mixed with diesel or fuel oil and police are concerned that the fertiliser could fall into the hands of terrorists.
Lincolnshire Police is appealing for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area at the time of the theft to get in touch. Police would also like to know of any suspicious sales of farmers being offered this product.
