Potato crop protection – a look into the future

With the continuing loss of key inputs, new approaches to crop protection will need to be developed drawing on biology as much as chemistry. In this session, Certis Belchim will introduce a new blight fungicide which both inhibits infection and activates the potato plant’s defence mechanism. It will also explore the potential of biostimulants to boost plants’ resilience to stress and make better use of nutrients.

Below the Ridge: Soil Structure, Roots and Yield

Soil pit inspection can tell us so much about the crop currently growing and how previous crop, cultivations or weather is impacting that crops performance.

While little can be done to change the current situation, observations now can influence future choices in soil management processes. For potatoes the formation of tubers, their size and quality is often the area of most focus regarding soil management, along with ease of planting and ultimately the harvesting of that crop. We will take a look at what’s been done, its impact on the crop and the soil as a whole and debate any improvements or cost saving that may be made.
