DEFRA faces 25% budget cut

DEFRA is facing a 25% budget cut after Chancellor George Osborne announced a package of spending plans and measures for the new parliament.

Detail was scant, with Mr Osborne referring to the cut being imposed on all non-protected departments.

He added that more information would be provided in the spending review to come on 20 October.

A DEFRA spokeswoman added: “We are working over the summer on the Spending Review, to assess which areas of spending can deliver savings and will, along with other departments, be announcing our budget for 2011-2015 on 20 October.”
