Arkady guarantees GM-free feed
UK-based animal feed importer Arkady Feed has secured Cert ID Non-GMO certification which guarantees its feed is GM-free.
The independent, third-party certification scheme covers the storage and distribution of Hipro soyabean meal at its Sutton Bridge store, in Lincolnshire.
Arkady Feed and its Brazilian supplier Imcopa have been operating at 0.1% – the maximum tolerance threshold set by the EU for GM feeds.
“The certification enables us to provide our customers with reassurance that the IP systems already in place are thorough and effective,” said Mike Whitehead, managing director of Arkady Feed (UK) Ltd.
“While other suppliers regularly supply soya with 0.2-0.5% contamination, our supplier, Imcopa, prides itself on maintaining the 0.1% GM maximum and we wish to continue this approach at the next stage of the supply chain.
“Opening up access to reliable non-GMO soy is essential for the feed sector in a GM sensitive market. We are delighted that the certification programme allows us to demonstrate its commitment in the non-GMO sector.”
British supermarkets continue to insist that all poultry rations are GM free.
