Agritechnica 2011: Field robot monitors plant growth

German equipment manufacturer Amazone is testing a concept field robot to help researchers speed up plant breeding.

The Bonirob robot monitors the growth process and increases the frequency at which data can be collected on plant development.

Costing £120,000 to develop, Bonirob is designed with research in mind.

One of the problems with a field robot is getting enough power to allow it to perform a range of functions.

Currently a 3hp Honda engine provides the power, but the plan is that solar energy will be used to make the unit self-sufficient.
