Cereals 2012: Bioethanol plant on track for summer start

Commissioning of the Vivergo bioethanol plant in Hull is progressing well and is on track to start commercial operation by mid to late summer.

The first wheat was delivered to the plant in April, and about 4,000t a day – equivalent to 140 lorry loads – will be required when it is up to capacity, according to Andrew Flux, from Frontier, which will supply all grain through its Humber Gold contract.

To manage the logistics of moving that amount of grain, Fronteir has unveiled an online booking system for Humber Gold members to schedule their own grain collection. The programme uses the existing iTrac system to let growers select available days and times for grain pick-up and will go live once the Vivergo plant begins commercial operation.

In addition, growers will be able to receive feedback on the specification of each load via a range of formats (text, email, etc) just 20 minutes after tipping.
